Our Nest Learning thermostat worked fine for more than a year. We recently removed it from the wall where it's wired in, just so we could paint the wall.
Upon replacing the thermostat, it keeps showing a message that says we need to disconnect the face from the wall and replace it again. I do and it does nothing.
I've tried a restart. I've checked all the wires. Nothing is out of place or messed up. Is there another solve for this I'm missing? After charging it separately from the wall and trying to replace it doesn't work either.
Please help. This is really frustrating.

Give this a go, and see if anything works better.
Remove the display, and squeeze the back and front together between your fingers and hold. When the house comes back on release, until you see the next message, 'replace to base'. ignore that, and repeat the process again. After doing that twice, then replace back on the base. That might reset the display, worth a try.

Hi Ryan. We ended up contacting Google Nest Help because nothing we tried fixed our problem. Turns out there is something wrong with our thermostat, so we are working with Google Nest Help folks to get it remedied.
Thanks for following up!
