Nest Learning Thermostat V3 , Nest account and adding it to Google Home Assistent fails

Hiya,

So today i bought, received and connected a Nest Learning Thermostat V3 and I will from now on shorten this one to NLT3. So it works standalone and wireless on its stand. That's not the issue. During installation I needed to link it up with Nest. So I did through "login with google"  Never had a Nest account, never needed one until today. But hey "login with google" sounded just about right.

So now I wanted to add it to Google Home because I have 6 Google  devices ranging from hubs to minis , a house full of HUE, a Harmony Remote, an Ikea Speaker, a Marantz, a Nvidia Shield, an Apple TV, Twinkly Xmas Tree Lights and even some Chinese wifi airfreshner all communicating through Google Home like the best of buddies .

And here is where the weirdness starts. Adding the NLT3 to Google home should go through "works with google" and so I do and I select Nest. Then I get directed to the Nest login screen.  When I Log in with Google it gets reverted back to a Nest login and password I don't have, never made and never was alerted about. Putting in my google credentials is not working eg. "wrong email/password". Then asking for some magic lost password to be send to my google account mail does nothing. And so I am running in circles. While adding any of my other google home stuff was done in 3 seconds this is going for a day now and no solution to be found.

So.. Help, I guess 😉

Just to clarify some extra info. I can control it through the separate Nest app on both Android and IOS  without a problem but for the life of me I can’t get it connected or added to Google Home for easy accessibility , voice control or any other thing I can do with all my other smart stuff through Google Home

I got it connected and working.

Couldn't sleep and was annoyed, went outside for a smoke, yelled at my neighbours cat and kicked some fallen leaves on the way back in. And then read some more and finally read somewhere  (lost in the mayhem of tabs) something weird about creating a second "dummy" home in the Nest App.. So I gave it shot.  I'll explain the steps I took as clear as I can.

  1. Open your Nest App
  2. Click Hamburger Menu on Top Left
  3. Choose the + sign on the Top Right
  4. Create a new home. I called it TestHome
  5. Close Nest App
  6. Now open Google Home App where you see your name of your home on top in the center of your screen now underlined meaning there is a second home
  7. Choose your TestHome and delete it within the Google Home settings of this TestHome
  8. Let magic take it's course and lo and behold a thermostat icon has appeared after refreshing your initial active home. Now ready to use it from within Google Home or with your voice through whatever Google Assistent device you are using.

Good Luck!

Thank you so much it worked!!!!!!

I just can’t work out how ask Google turn hot water on 🙈.  (Only heating up or down). Never had a device like this  before so maybe I’m not saying right command!!

Happy it works for you 😁👍

…about the voice commands for water I don’t know. Using a Grohe Red in the Kitchen and thermostatic valves in the shower so we have no need for voice driven water temps. Although I have read around that there are no voice commands for water on the Nest.  But then again I did not research that part.
