Nest Learning Thermostats - will not connect to the Nest/Google App.

I have two new Nest Learning Thermostats, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. One Thermostat installed flawlessly and connected to WiFi and the Nest App without issue. The other installed flawlessly and connected to WiFi without issue, but I can not get the unit to connect to the Nest App. (WiFi works and the Nest unit controls the HVAC very well. It just won't connect to the App)

I tried all of the online suggested "fixes"

I tried switching the location (moved the upstairs unit down and the downstairs unit up) still no connection to the app.

Any other suggestions?

Is it possible to exchange the unit? who to contact?

Many thanks

Did you try resetting the account connection on the faulty Nest?  Settings -> Reset -> Account connection

Yes! Also did a "All Settings" reset.  The App is current and has been used for 4 other units in 3 different properties.

This is the first unit that has failed to connect to the App.

You should be getting a TD error code on the Nest app when it fails, what is it?

Nest sez: "make sure you're close to it, it's online and that your phone is connected to the same WiFi network. TD030

All are true.

Try to pop it out of the faceplate, bring it close to the other one that works, and set it up there.

The App doesn't seem to want to accept two learning Thermostats.

I disconnected the working one and then the non-working one was easily added to the App.

When I tired to add the first one back I had the same problem and TD030. Even with both Learning Thermostats and my iphone within 1" of each other.

At least I know that it is not a defective Learning Thermostat!

How can I get them to be happy in the same App?

Ok thanks. Can you try creating a new home in the Nest app and adding the thermostats to that new structure? Top left icon and then + on the top right.

They still won't live in the same home account.

However, I have set-up an upstairs home and a downstairs home and added the respective Nest learning Thermostats to each. A bit clunky and stupid (IMO),....but it works.

I would still prefer to have both visible from the same home, let me know your thought and suggestions.

Interesting that they would be allowed to live in different homes. Now that they are both added, which I think is a great step forward, can you try to go to the Google home app and work some magic? I personally don’t use the Nest app anymore, Google is working on phasing it out, their long term strategy is google home for all their products.

Many thanks for sticking with me and providing suggestions!!

I'll see what I can find on the Google Home App.

I already tried having the same unit living in 2 Homes,.....the Nest App doesn't like it, not surprisingly.

At least I can control both units from my phone, which I agree is "a great step forward".

Thanks again.

Anytime, keep me posted. The Google home app is trivial to use, just run it and it should automatically be able to detect your thermostats now that they are registered.

TD030

Ok. Following link will give you details on the error code https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9703359?hl=en#zippy=%2Ctd

First thing to do is to ensure that all thermostats and your phone are using the same wifi network. If you have repeaters or other type of APs in your LAN that could create some issues.

I am attempting to install a nest “learning” thermostat to replace the older version and can’t get it to connect to the app either ! Have done all the trouble shooting steps too. I have 2 other thermostats connected and now wonder if thats why it won’t add this to the the group. Hmmmm.

Did you try to add it to a different home structure and that also didn’t work?

I’m in the same boat. 2 other Nests in the house and can’t install the 3rd. Tried everything listed above (and more) with no luck. Frustrated

I deleted the other 2 thermostats and then was able to add the new one. Have not yet tried to add them back…Ive spent way too much time on this today 😂

Ok cool, keep us posted.
