We are trying to install a Nest learning thermostat and can't figure out the wiring.  We currently have: C, RC, U1, W, Y and G.  Can someone please help and let us know if the Nest Learning is compatible with our system?

thanks

The wire attached to U1 is a User Defined function that is part of your Old Thermostat.  You need to look at the programming of the U1 and see what triggers that wire.

How do I look at the programming of the U1 to see what triggers that wire? Thanks

@Dlwalsh98 , I will need the Manufacturer and model number if your old thermostat so I can look up the programing mode access.

The thermostat is a Honeywell,  Model TH8321R1001

@Dlwalsh98 , this particular model is a pretty advanced featured thermostat from Honeywell. Now that U1, can be programmed to control a humidifier or dehumidifier, a second stage heating or a second stage cooling. Press the MENU icon, then DEALER INFORMATION. Now scroll down and you will see the DATE CODE.  Write it down.  Select DONE. This date code is the installer menu password.
With the DATE CODE in hand, Tap MENU then  choose INSTALLER OPTIONS, enter the DATE CODE and press DONE.   Now select INSTALLER SETUP. There will be a 3-digit number followed by a value. Scroll down until you reach 207 and note the value; is it 1 or 2? Scroll down to 800. What is its value?  Now then select DONE. And report back to me the values found.
