Nest Termostat Married to Base?

Does the thermostat marry to the wiring base?

We replaced a learning thermostat body with a new one and it didn't work. It flashes green yellow-green, then announces "the thermostat is shutting down". And repeat. (We've already returned the old body). Is it that the wiring base is married to the other body, or just a chance that the new one is defective?

The display and the base are not a matched pair.

Looks like you may have a faulty part, and that could be the base if the display has been replaced..

Thank you. The original worked great, but circumstances required replacement. Looks like the new one was problematic.

Hi folks,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for helping here, @Frustratedddd.

@Elanam, it's usually normal for a newly installed part of the thermostat, especially for the display part to not power up. Let's sort this out.

You'll find the steps here on this page:

  • Ensure that all wires are properly connected and buttons are pushed down.
  • Check for any visible damage on the pin connectors.
  • Try charging the display for an hour until it shows the "Please attach the display to its base" message.
  • After an hour, plug it back in to its base and see if a "wiring report" or "message code" appears.

Please keep us posted on how it goes.

Best regards,

Mark

Hi Elanam,

I'm checking back in. Were you able to do the steps above? I'd be glad to hear from you — I'd like to make sure everything is working.

Thanks,

Mark
