Nest app will not connect with nest thermostat

My nest thermostat is connected to the house Wi-Fi. But it will not connect with the nest app on my phone. It worked fine for several months. I have tried all of the normal steps to resolve: factory reset the thermostat, restarted the thermostat, reconnected it to the Wi-Fi, deleted and reinstalled the app. Perhaps this is a result of a recent iOS update? I’m running iOS 16.1. BTW, having the same issue the 2 nest protects. Any solution to reconnect the thermostat to the app?

I had a similar issue today. I think it was all down to a Google Server issue. I made the mistake of trying to re-boot everything rather than let it just sort itself out.

I also updated IOS today, but it is not down to that.

I think you will have to persist in resetting the thermostat and possibly the heatlink. There are different ways of resetting the thermostat (you can restart it, or factory re-set it - you want to 'restart it'). I found that two clicks on the thermostat followed by a longer single click did the trick.

Resetting the heating was far more troublesome when I couldn't get it to show a constant blue light, but this was eventually solved with the following link (see the contribution from pra_19_343):-

Hello folks,

I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. I did come across a useful article that provided some troubleshooting steps for when your thermostat is not connecting to the Nest app or to the Wi-Fi network. If it resolves the problem or if it still exists, please let us know.

Best regards,

Mark

I've done all this and it still won't connect.

Hello MrsStrahan,

I appreciate that you've tried to find a fix. Let's give these steps a whirl:

  1. Open the Nest app and create another structure. Here's your guide on how to add another home structure.
  2. Ensure that the phone's Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on and that no Bluetooth devices are connected.
  3. On the thermostat. Go to Settings > Reset > Account Connection > Reset.
    1. This will disconnect it from the network.
  4. Once rebooted. Reconnect the thermostat to the Wi-Fi network.
  5. Go back to Settings > Nest App. Select either a QR code or an entry key.
  6. Continue by adding the thermostat to the Nest App.

Please let me know if that helps, or if the issue still persists.

Thanks,

Mark

Hey there,

I'm checking back in. Were you able to do the steps above? I'd be glad to hear from you — I'd like to make sure everything is working.

Thanks,

Mark

I’ve had the exact same issue for the last 30 days. I removed both thermostats from my account and have reset the device several times. No trouble shooting step has worked for me. I’m ready to take a hammer to both of them at this point.

I am having this issue as well and have been for about 2 months now. I have one that is working just fine and is connected to the app the other won't connect at all. I even tried adding it to a different account and nothing.
