Nest Thermostat: HVAC (heating) fan on/off/on issue

Bonanza

I have just installed a Google Nest Thermostat. When the heating cycle is activated, the fan starts and runs for approximately 5 seconds and then shuts off. At that point, (as with the prior thermostat) the furnace "lights" and when the chamber heats up, the fan turns on, as it should, heats the home and then turns off when the set temperature is reached. The fan should not immediately start and shut off in 5 seconds. How can I correct this issue?

You have done a good job describing the symptoms you’re experiencing now let’s get down to the technical part. We need you to upload the picture of your old thermostat wire base, and we need you to show us how you wired the nest back plate. Next we need you to take a picture of the nest, showing you the equipment configuration for the heating system and upload that. This will give us enough to work with an order to try to help you diagnose the cause of your problem and come up with a solution. You will need to deploy.

Thank you both for your quick replies to my Nest Thermostat issue. I was able to resolve the issue by conducting a Factory Reset. During the resetting process within Google Home, one of the app's questions is if you want the Nest Thermostat to control the HVAC fan (during Heating and Cooling) or to let your HVAC system control the fan. It is important (at least for my Carrier system) to let the HVAC system, and not the Nest Thermostat control the system. I must not have chosen the correct option during my first installation. I hope this helps others that have had and will have this similar problem. Thank you!

Most gas furnaces have a control board that controls the fan. In fact, the heating fan speed it typically slower than the cooling fan speed. So, let the equipment control the fan.
