The exclamation point that appears on your Nest thermostat indicates that there was a problem or a report showing. Usually it tells if there's an issue with the Wi-Fi network or a wiring report. To check, do you mind me asking what type of Nest thermostat do you have? Here's your reference. Also, you can go to its settings to see which option has the report.
