Nest Thermostat calibration.

Hi all,

Have seen posts talking about how calibration isn't possible but just thought I'd see if that's still the case and they haven''t provided a firmware update or anything.

I have a Display 3.4 thermostat, (in an isolated place - ie no sunlight or breezes), and an Amber 2.5 heatlink. Heating is off by 2 degrees. How do I know?

I have a cheap thermostat within 2 inches of it. that reads higher and a calibrated datalogger and thermocouple that I use for work right next to it. Smallest difference is 1.6℃.

Any ideas?

Regards, Deegee.

Hi DeeGee.

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I understand that you've noticed a slight fluctuation in the temperature readout on your Nest Thermostat. Let’s see what can be done about it.

When did you first notice this difference in temperature readout? Have you tried any troubleshooting steps? If so, would you mind listing them? I would like to know where specifically this thermostat is placed as well.

While there isn’t an option to recalibrate the sensors on your thermostat, the sensors on it will recalibrate once a restart is performed. After that, you can compare the readouts once again and see if it now gives you an accurate value.

On the thermostat’s display, go to “Settings” > “Reset” > “Restart,” the thermostat will take a few moments to restart and boot back up.

In the meantime, I suggest you make sure the thermostat isn’t near a heat source, like any appliances, electrical outlets, or hot water sources that could cause the thermostat to read a temperature higher than usual.

Let me know what you find out.

Regards,

Angel.

Hi Angel, the usual. Turned in on and off as there are no other suggestions in the manual. As for making sure it's not near a heat source I'm not sure I agree with what you are saying. It's not anyway but it's within an inch of the two UKAS, (https://www.ukas.com/accreditation/?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADda_0t_WHccf71XMxP6U0Dq-fs_M), calibrated instruments I used to compare with. However it's on a wooden cabinet 4-5 feet in the air where no direct sunlight or breezes are present.

Does resetting erase all settings?

Hi DeeGee,

Thanks for getting back to me,

A restart shouldn’t erase all of your settings; keep in mind that a restart is different than a reset; a reset will erase all of your settings, and you’ll need to set up your thermostat again.

Since your thermostat isn’t near anything that could cause it to not get a proper temperature readout, my next suggestion is to check the thermostat’s connection and power.

On the thermostat’s display, Go to settings > Technical info > Power. And you should be able to see values for VIN and VUSB; what does it show?

It would be great if you could tell me what router you are using to get your Nest Thermostat online. However, my recommendation would be to check if the thermostat has any trouble connecting to the internet, as an inconsistent internet connection could affect the readout as well. You can disconnect your thermostat from the network by selecting Settings > Network > Disconnect.

Please monitor your thermostat for 24 hours after disconnecting it from the network. If the temperature readouts become more accurate, it might mean your thermostat’s connection should be improved, and we can look into that instead.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Angel.
