Nest Thermostat indoor temperature not updating

blue8haze

I have a Nest Thermostat that will not read the correct indoor temperature until it turns the heating system on. Usually it reads the indoor temperature as a few degrees too warm but if I set the thermostat to one degree above the indoor temperature reading it will turn the system on and then it updates the indoor temperature to the correct reading. This is making for some really cold nights for my family. Anyone know of a way to fix this?

Hi blue8haze,

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that your thermostat is reading your indoor temperature inaccurately. A few questions:

  • Are you located in North America or Europe?
  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • When was the thermostat installed?
  • Where did you install your thermostat? In a room and on a wall or stand?
  • Do you have other active Nest Thermostats? If yes, do they show the same issue?
  • When did the issue start?
  • How big is the difference between the readout of the Nest Thermostat and your thermometer or other thermostats?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps? If yes, would you mind listing them?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

  • I am in North America
  • I have the Nest Thermostat
  • The thermostat was installed before I moved into this house
  • The thermostat is installed in the Dining Room on a wall
  • We have no other active Nest Thermostats
  • The issue has started since the heating season started so mid October
  • The difference is typically 3-5 degrees though sometimes it can be 1-3 degrees
  • I tried resetting the thermostats several times and removing it from the google home app several times, I've updated all the firmware, I made sure all the wires are connected, not sure what else I should do.
