Nest Thermostat only activates when there's motion

I set a heating schedule on the Nest thermostat, but it does not follow the schedule.  It only activates when I walk up to it and it senses a person in the room.  This is a room we hardly use but once a week, but it does not heat up unless someone is in the room.  What could be causing this?  We had our furnace checked and everything is fine.

Hey there,

I wanted to follow up and see if I could be of any help. Do you happen to know if the device is switching to Eco mode? If so, I found an article with some troubleshooting steps that may help. Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Best regards,
Jake

Thanks for replying!

Yes, I believe they are quite possibly in eco mode, supposedly to save energy.  I wouldn't think that means it's only active when there's motion in the room.  I mean, what if it's in the living room and we're all sleeping?  Shouldn't the heat still come on?  I also have them programmed on a schedule, but, it doesn't seem to follow the schedule unless I walk past it.  Then the fan immediately comes on.

Hey there,

Do you happen to know if you have connected your location to your device using your phone? You can also check to see how often and when the device is switching modes by following these steps.

On the home screen, go to the Feed, Recent Events, then history, then look for "Home & Away" events.

Best regards,

Jake

No, I haven't connected it to my phone, or to the internet.  I'll give it a try and see if I can see the events.  Thanks.
