Nest Thermostat

I’m the original user of 3rd gen Nest thermostat. Issue started with thermostat not connected to Wi-Fi. I removed the device in Nest App thinking I could easily add device back. I since restarted thermostat and now connects to Wi-Fi. Now the issue is getting the Entry Key since thermostat already belongs to my account. What is the best way to get Entry Key?

Me too. I keep going round in circles. Reluctant to try getting device off the wall. Didn't note the code when installed as engineer said I would only need it this one time.

Frustrated

Had to reboot my wi-fi and now 3rd Gen thermostat doesn’t find any WiFi networks at all.  My network is working fine with other products, I factory reset the thermostat multiple times, and I cannot add it to the Nest app.  Frustrating to say the least.

I just called Nest customer service. Restarted thermostat, used QR code from setting,  and setup was a breeze.

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting here in the community forum, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. I want to check to see if you are still in need of any help. If so, where are you located? From North America or Europe? Also, what type of Nest thermostat do you have?

@suhelpet, you may either get an Entry Key or scan the QR Code of your Nest Thermostat to proceed with setting up on the app.

@Profemeritus, are you seeing any message or code on the app that prevents you from proceeding with the set up?

@NestUser25, thanks for letting us know, and I'm glad to hear that everything has been sorted out. If you have questions or concerns in the future about your thermostat, feel free to start a new thread, and we'll be happy to help.

Keep us posted. We're happy to help.

Best,

Zoe

I’m in the US.  I went through it all with a Google tech on the phone yesterday.  He concluded that the stat will not connect to WiFi, there is no fix and it’s off warranty.  It is now a “dumb” stat.  Gee, thanks folks.  $250 for a thermostat that fails in just over two years.  What a joke (on me)!  Oh, and insult to injury, one of my outdoor cameras purchased at the same time, died as well and I just got notice that my Nestaware subscription is going up from $60 to $80.  A 33% increase!

Thermostat not connected again. Too late in evening to deal with this again. Have to restart again tomorrow.

Hi everyone,

@Profemeritus, I'm sorry to hear what happened. I'd like to review your case, could you please provide your case ID?

@NestUser25, thanks for letting us know. Please provide your case ID from the representative who assisted you before. Also, check your Nest Thermostat's power readout. The ideal battery level for the thermostat is at least 3.7 V above to stay connected to the Wi-Fi network.

You can follow this guide to check your thermostat's power readings:

Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E:

  1. Go to your thermostat Quick View menu.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Look for Technical Info.
  4. Select Power.

Nest Thermostat 2020:

  1. Open the Google Home app and then tap the thermostat and then tap Settings .
  2. Select the Device Information.
  3. Choose Technical Information.

I appreciate the help, Zoe.

Regards,

Jenelyn

Hi, Jenelyn.  I’m not sure I have a case number or where it might be!  I did speak with someone and we went through the steps of checking the thermostat, but I didn’t get any follow up or mention of a case number.  Bill

Hi Bill,

No worries, I'd like to give it a shot. Please try to factory reset your Nest Thermostat. Go to Settings > Reset > All Settings. Continue with the setup process, but skip the setup for Nest app. Once you're on the Network option, while your thermostat is trying to look for an available network, try to press and hold your thermostat display for 10 seconds until it restarts. After that, check if you will find any messages or codes, and let me know what it is.

Thanks,

Jenelyn

OK, I tried this.  The equivalent of a factory reset, yes? But it did not start from the beginning as if I was installing it for the first time.  Tells me that what time and date is wrong, and then simply went The existing stat setting for the thermostat which is 78.  I tried going to the Wi-Fi set up and it just can’t find ANY networks, mine or the dozen or so of my neighbors.  I tried holding it down for 10 seconds and it didn’t do anything but went back to the operating setting with temp.  Bill

Hello Bill,

Thanks for trying. One last thing, please go to your Nest Thermostat Quick View menu. After that, highlight the gear icon for Settings, and check for a specific code or message.

Jenelyn
