Nest blowing hot air on cool

I just got a Nest Gen 1 givin to me. After I installed it and set it up as heat pump the cooling setting blows hot air.

That's the base plate for the Google Nest Thermostat, and you don't have it wired correctly.

Are you sure you have a heat pump and not a conventional system? Look in the Furnace/air handler and see how it is wired there. Post a picture if you can.

Yes @Patrick_Caezza I'm sure I have a heat pump. This is how my downstairs Nest 3 is wired.

You need to change a setting in your Nest Thermostat Equipment configuration. You have a Heat Pump and the setting for the reversing valve is currently incorrect.  An Heat Pump can either act as a heating system or a cooling system.  It is the reversing valve that changes the heat pump from Cooling to Heating or Heating to Cooling.  

I do not know the Gen 1 display software that well. What you need to do is go into settings and then Equipment, then find the setting for the Heat pump valve. What ever the current setting is, change to the opposite.  There are only two choices, Energize for Heating or Energize For Cooling. 

To test this, tell your nest to go into heating and set the temperature to 3-degrees warmer than the room temperature. The AC will come on.  This will prove the setting is wrong. 

Having said this, I am not sure you have a Heat Pump, the Orange wire on your old thermostat is wired to W2 or AUX and is NOT the O/B wire. I believe you have a 2-stage gas furnace. If you indeed have a Heat Pump, then the White Wire is O/B and the Orange wire is auxiliary heat.

I'm fairly certain I have a heat pump I just didn't realize there was a setting I have to change in the thermostat. But I will try that now @CoolingWizard

You said you have a downstairs Nest. Do you have two separate HVAC systems or just one with a zone controller?

Can you post a picture of its wiring if you have a zone controller?

When you changed the wiring, did you reset it to factory defaults and configure it again? The Google Nest Thermostat does handle wire changes very well, and to ensure they are configured correctly, it's best to start over from scratch.

Wire it like this.

Orange - Aux to W (set as AUX heat)

Red - R to R (jumper not needed)

White - O/B to */OB

Yellow - Y to Y

Green - G to G

Blue - B to B

Reset it to facotry default and then configure it agian in the Google Home App.

When the app asks you what wires do you have, select these

Other, R, O/B, Y/Y1, G/G1, and C
