Nest is not reaching desired cooling temp.

All of the sudden yesterday our ac will not cool to set desired temp. It ran all night set at 72 degrees with the best saying “ reach temp in 2 hours” but the temp still stayed at 77 degrees and never went down nor did the ac stop all night or all day. My husband changed the filter today and I was hoping that would fix it, but it’s still been hours with the ac running and the temp still reads 78 degrees and won’t get to 72 degrees for 2 hours. What do we try next. I’m scared to know my Edison bill after 24 hours straight running with no true temp change.

Was filter plugged up? Try leaving off for 3-4 hrs maybe it was iced up. Then try it  & if you can feel good airflow blowing out but not cool then it’s outside unit that’s not working.

I turned the ac off for 4 hours and still not as cool as normal  Not blowing warm air just not cool, nest still says won’t get to desired temp for 2+ hours. What’s next?

Outside AC unit is not running can be multiple things etc breaker is tripped or fuses shorted maybe due to capacitor or other failures. Best option is contact AC tech to check. Good luck.

@JMans,

Your system needs to be serviced. Have them verify the indoor coil is clean, and have the outdoor condensing coil cleaned and check the system performance by verifying the Sub-Cooling and Super Heat meet the manufacturer specifications.

Literally the exact same thing happened to us last night. Left it off for a few hours during the day, turned back on, seemed to be okay and then happened again. Whole unit froze up, turned it off for a good while to thaw out. Now it's running cool air but thermostat temp still not going down below 76.

@aishabelal90 ,

There are a couple reasons why the indoor unit will ice up. Poor air flow or low on refrigerant.  The poor air flow can be dirty or plugged up filter or a dirty or plugged up coil.  If it is a refrigeration leak in your system, you will damage the compressor if you keep running the system on low refrigerant.  I encourage you to call a company to service your air conditioner.

@debi926 ,

I looked for your other messages you claimed to have posted for weeks and I never found them. You say your HVAC system is not cooling efficiently and it does not cool your home below 80°F? Does your coil ice up as like the original poster has stated? You say your system was recently serviced and it worked fine for 2 days. What did the service technician specifically do to your HVAC system?
