This is my second Nest thermostat in 3 years the battery's do not a hold a charge. It is wired in to an electrical out and for almost a year it is working fine then the battery starts to drain and even though it is still hooked to 110 power the battery still dies. then I disconnect it and plug it into a charger it charges up I plug it in and 3 days later it's dead again.

Having the same issue currently. I have a Nest thermostat 3rd gen that won’t connect to WiFi with a W5 that I could t figure out so I left it alone. Now it doesn’t seem to hold a battery charge as when plugged in. Now a day later it’s back saying it needs to shutdown due to low battery. My house is warm now because the air shuts off. It’s too hot out to be having these issues right now. Someone please help us!

You need to have the C slot wired up on the nest so you have 24 volt power to it all the time so you don’t have to keep charging it via usb port. When nest battery gets low it will act up on you so best option is to install wire to C slot if you have extra wiring. If not I’d suggest running new low voltage wiring. Hope that helps. Good luck.

@Twojaxsa, could you please provide your Nest Thermostat power readout? Go to your thermostat Settings > Technical Info > Power.
@Adamdde, try to charge your thermostat using a micro USB cable for at least an hour. Once done, restart your thermostat by going to Settings > Reset > Restart. Restart your router as well. Please let me know if the W5 code is still there.

Hey Jenelyn, thanks for getting back to us. I’ve done what you suggested. But the W5 still came up. I found there was an C wire available and I installed that but it’s not detecting any power. However, when I use my power tester it tells me it’s hot. Not sure what the issue is now.
