I can’t seem to get my heater to work with my heat pump system. I installed the nest thermostat in August and the AC worked fine at that time. I was unable to test the heater then because our temperatures were in the 90s-100s. Now that we have some cold weather, I can’t get my heater to turn on.

Attached is the photo of my old wiring and of my current wiring. My previous thermostat had both a white and a black wire going into the Aux-e. I plugged my white wire into the W2/aux and have capped the black one on my nest thermostat. Any thoughts as to what the problem can be? I have tried changing the settings from O to B on the thermostat and tried plugging the black one into * with emergency heat without any luck.

Hi, Rs123

From your photo of the original connections and your Nest diagram I made a table of the wire colors, below. Where the Nest connection matches the original, things are okay, but it appears that some are not correct. Going down the lost, blue is okay, the red wire correctly goes to Rh (Rc and Rh should not be tied together on Nest), orange, your stage 1 furnace command, should got to W1 which is stage 1 heat, yellow is okay,, violet is okay, and the black and white go to W2, which is stage 2 hear. It's unlikely that both black and white are used for stage 2 heat, but that's the way someone originally hooked them up, so it's probably no harm to leave it that way. This should fix things, and hope it goes well.

ORIG. CONN. WIRE COLOR NEST CORRECT CONN.
C blue blue
Rc red Rc
R jumper to Rc NC
W1 orange NC
Y yellow Y1
G violet G
W2 aux black, white W2
