Nest not powering on

DJCarl

I just installed a nest learning tstat and it won’t power on. I connected it to usb charger over night and it still doesn’t turn on.  I tried to reboot but after 10 seconds the screen still doesn’t light up. Do I have a defective unit? Shouldn’t it power up even when not connected to the wall? Any help is greatly appreciated

It needs to be on the base to power up but read this info:

@Houptee I’ve had it on the base as well. The display doesn’t go on. That’s why I pulled it off to charge. Even if my wires are wrong at this point if it’s charged the display should go on correct?

if I hold down to reboot it seems like it reboots but the display never goes on and I don’t get the home screen

What wires do you have connected to the base?

Can you post a pic.

Do you have a Rc and a Rh wire or only one of the R wires?

And do you have a C wire connected?

Y, G, Rc for AC

R W for heat zone 2.
I connected one of the extra wires to C on the AC unit in the attic.

I spoke with nest help and they said that I should atleast get the Google logo when I try to power on so they are saying the unit is defective.

OK

I thought maybe you had a dead short or tried to jumper the reds together.

Never use any jumper wires on these new smart Tstats.

Hopefully you can return that Nest to the place of purchase. If they send you one under warranty I have read on this forum that you will get a refurbished unit.

Thank you for your help. I ordered from a store so hopefully I’ll just get a new unit. I’ll keep you posted if that fixes it

Thank you everyone for the help. The device was defective. Got the new one and it powered on and displayed the Google logo. Hooked it up and it works as it should. Thank you all!
