This was my question but I was unable to reply before shut.

The answer given explains how the heat will not be at temperature when turned on - easily understood as heat is not instant.  It also says that it is not a good idea to turn your appliance on and off too often, etc.

Every time I turn on my hot water tap to wash my hands, the appliance is turned on and off within a short time. Why should it be different for the hot water required for heating?  The technical reason does not make any sense.

In fact, the answer was so detailed it got lost in itself.

Getting back to basics - I want heat for a short time only to dry my towels. I do not need it to reach a certain temp to do this - just generate heat above the level in the room.  It looks like your specifications didn't take into account all that was needed for a heating function and focussed more on complicated connections.  Most people have a daily routine yet the heating functions seem to be set for ad-hoc behaviour.  It is a real disappointment when new tech forgets what the original use was and forces change which loses the functionality that was available from a basic system.

So the only solution I have is to set my phone alarm to go off 5 mins after the nest has turned on so I can run to the control and manually turn it down - effectively off - saving 55 mins of wasted/expensive gas generated heat (summer time).  Fantastic - not!  Unless someone has a better idea...?
