Nest thermostat E working but app is offline

Hi community. I haven’t found a solution to my issue which seems similar to

others.

my thermostat is working fine but my nest app is offline intermittently. It has only been happening the last few days. Nothing has changed to the device, so I’m not sure why this is happening.

My thermostat is connected to the wiring in my home so battery shouldn’t be a cause, right?

Would like advice to making my app back online again.

Thank you.

Hello RandomUset,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing connectivity issues with your Nest app going offline intermittently. Connectivity problems can be tricky, but let's try to troubleshoot and find a solution for you.

Firstly, you're correct in assuming that if your thermostat is connected to the wiring in your home, the battery should not be the cause. However, it's still a good idea to check if there are any loose connections or issues with the wiring.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Make sure that your thermostat has a stable Wi-Fi connection. If possible, try restarting your Wi-Fi router and see if that resolves the intermittent connectivity problem.
  2. Sometimes, the app itself may encounter temporary glitches. Try closing the Nest app completely and then reopening it. If the issue persists, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
  3. Make sure that your thermostat's software is up-to-date. Sometimes, a software update can address connectivity issues.
  4. Double-check your network settings to ensure they are configured correctly. Ensure that the Nest Thermostat is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network and that there are no restrictions or firewall settings causing interruptions.
  5. Check for any power reports in the Technical Info settings on your thermostat. If the battery level drops to 3.7 V, pull the display and charge it for an hour using a micro USB charger.

You can also find these steps here in the Nest Thermostat is offline article, and let us know if that helps.

Best regards,
Mark

Thank you, Mark! It looks like it may be due to #5 which is the battery level after all. When the level is below 3.73, my nest thermostat goes offline in the app. Without doing anything, the level increased over a period of about a day. Then the app was back online. I assume the battery was charged by the low voltage wiring connected to the thermostat and that high usage of the device may have caused the low level. And the low level causes the device to appear offline in the app.

Hi RandomUset,

Without a doubt! I'm glad to hear that the issue resolved itself once the battery level increased over time. Monitoring the battery level and considering the usage patterns of your thermostat should help prevent similar occurrences in the future. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.

Warm regards,
Mark
