Compatibility chart says system is compatible.  Electric Heat pump with emergency heat.  But during setup I get a message that Nest is not compatibility.  I put the E wire to W without jumper and O to o/b in nest.  Others as marked.Existing wiring on TH4110BExisting wiring on TH4110B

Hello DKM,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

I’d be happy to help you with this. To determine if your HVAC system is compatible with Nest thermostats, I need the following information:

Once I have this information, I can check to see if your system is supported.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Lance

US.  Nest thermostat Google GA01334-US.

heat pump is on the roof.  It’s an old unit that had the motor recently, according to inspector. We just purchased the townhouse. I will look for manual but not climbing on roof.  Thx

Hi DKM,

Thanks for keeping me in the loop. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Reset the Nest Thermostat to factory settings. Go to Settings > Factory Reset >Reset > Yes.
  2. Setup the thermostat in the Home app.

During setup, choose the wires as shown below:

Let me know how it goes.

Hello everyone,

@DKM, thanks for getting back to us. We see two white wires in the photo, one is at the back of the wires and we can't see the end of it. The other one is like a jumper that's connected to the AUX and E terminals. Please check where the other end of the white wire at the back is connected.

In case the white wire at the back is connected to the AUX terminal, this is how it should look like to your Nest Thermostat's base:

You may also share here your current wiring setup.

I appreciate the help, Lance.

Regards,

Emerson

Thanks.  White wire in the background is not connected to any terminal.  Visible white wire in foreground is a jumper from E to AUX.

Hi folks,

@DKM, thanks for letting us know. In this case, the visible white wire that jumpers from E to AUX should be connected to * terminal of the Nest Learning Thermostat base. Below is the illustration for you.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

I appreciate your help here, Lance and Emerson.

Do you mean the orange wire that’s connected to E ?? White jumper wire connects E to Aux.

Hi there DKM,

Thanks for the clarification—my bad. The white jumper wire should not be connected to the Nest Learning Thermostat base; instead, the orange wire should be connected to the * terminal of the Nest Learning Thermostat base to work with your emergency heat.

Kind regards,

Zoe

See my reply above. This Nest thermostat doesn’t have a * terminal.

Hello there DKM,

Gotcha. For your heat pump system with emergency heat, I recommend you install the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation instead of the Nest Thermostat 2020 that you have since only the Nest Learning Thermostat can support a system with a separate heat pump wire and emergency heat wire, unlike with the Nest Thermostat 2020 that you have to choose with either your heat pump wire or emergency heat wire be connected to *OB terminal.

Best regards,

Zoe
