I purchased the most recent version of the google nest thermostat. When installing, I have an e wire with no home in the nest. I read in another forum I could plug it into W. Is this accurate? Below is a picture of the old thermostat

Hi Lee4,
Thanks for posting in the Google Nest Community forum. Your system is compatible with the Nest Learning Thermostat, as the Nest Thermostat 2020 might need to have a C wire or a Nest Power Connector. Also, the emergency heat wire is not supposed to be connected to the W terminal on the Nest Thermostat.

Great! Thank you. There is an unlabeled blue wire that is tucked into the wall. I assume that is the c wire. Also, do you recommend capping the e wire and not using it at all? Thanks for the time!

Hi folks,
I appreciate your input, Jenelyn.
@Lee4, thanks for getting back to us. The E wire should be connected to the * terminal of the Nest Learning Thermostat, as that is the wire for your emergency heat. Below is an image of how your thermostat wires should be wired to the Nest Learning Thermostat base.
Also, here's a guide for the installation and setup of a Nest Learning Thermostat.
Let us know if you have any other questions. We're happy to help.

Hi there,
Sorry for the delayed response. We are referring to the wire that goes to the O/B terminal of your Emerson thermostat. That wire is your heat pump wire and should be connected to the Nest Learning Thermostat's OB terminal to work for it.
Keep us posted.
Thanks,
Zoe
