We just moved into a house that has a nest thermostat. The previous owner has left it with their settings still on and says connect to thief app . There is a reset option but am worried I do this then it will loose all the settings for the heating and won't connect to the boiler . Will this happen or will it just delete the older users schedules settings and app access ect ?

This article has a subsection discussing what to do if there's already a Nest in your house. First figure out which model you have, then scroll down to that model's section on the page and look for "If you moved into a home with a Nest thermostat already installed". It's true, as you speculate, that if you're forced to do a factory reset, all the settings will be lost and you'll have to start over as if it were a brand-new Nest.

Hi folks,
I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.
Thanks for the assistance, @CBFox.
@Shelljane, I'm checking in to make sure that you've seen CBFox's response with the troubleshooting guide. How's your thermostat? Were you able to connect it to your account? If you haven't yet, try the steps here:
For Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E:
For Nest thermostat:
Let me know if that helps.
Best regards,
Mark
