Nest thermostat not recording event history I have restarted it, factory reset it, etc.

I have had a Nest thermostat for 2 months now, today it stopped recording when it is running in the energy dashboard, and activity log. The thermostat is working fine, I can still control it from my app, I have tried to restart and factory reset the Nest thermostat and it hasn’t helped my issue. Any advice?

Hello folks,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and I'm sorry for the delay in responding. We're aware of the energy history not showing and the constant heat display on the app. Rest assured, we're actively investigating it.

A possible cause for it might be related to the thermostat shutting down due to a power loss or if a hard restart has been performed. This could potentially lead to a data issue.

In the meantime, please let our product team know about this by sharing your feedback in the app and continuing to monitor the dashboard. If you have anything more to share about the app's recent behavior, let us know.

Best regards,

Mark

I'm experiencing the exact issue, furnace and thermostat work fine, but app doesn't track the Events and Energy Dashboard. It started misbehaving just before noon central time today. First it said my furnace had been running non stop for 3 hours in the Energy Dashboard. Then that incorrect data somehow disappeared around 4pm from Dashboard and simply showed that the furnace hasn't ran since 11am, when it indeed ran 1 or 2 times per hour. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the Home app several times, rebooted my router several times, removed the thermostat from the Home app and went thru the set up again. Still nothing.

Same issue with my thermostat. Since noon today, it has not recorded anything even though it was running several times through the evening. Is it some issue with the app?

It's gotta be.

Also experiencing the issue. No event history since 11:13am PST. Thermostat working normally otherwise.

Wow same exact issue happening to me since last night. History disappeared after showing thermostat had ran. I wonder what's going on.

We’ve got 4 Nest Learning T-stats on 2 different locations and all are having this same issue with an inaccurate energy dashboard on the Home app, but on the Nest app, the “History” from the prior day appears to be working…so it’s specific to the Home app and not the Nest app.

Exactly same problem with my Google Home App Activity tab also from yesterday morning. Last event recorded at 9:45 am yesterday saying  "Heated for 11 mins" after that no update even though I refreshed more than 30 times. So in the night I delete the account and reinstalled everything "Lost all of my previous data" but no help. the issue is still the same.

Don’t worry and definitely do not reset your thermostats. It seems like it’s catching upon and Google /nest might be using some queuing mechanism which might have either broke or is slow and catching up

Yea you are right phani but I already deleted the account last night and lost all of my data

Same - support advised me to reset it. Which didn't work and just served to delete 2 years of data.

I'm having a similar issue, the thermostat is working fine but the app is saying it's been running non-stop since yesterday afternoon.  I know it's been running as it should and was not running all night, but the app is saying it is.  It started around 2 pm EST on 1/22/24, which sounds about in line with everyone else's experience with this similar issue.

just checked and it seems to be working again in the home app, although a bit inaccurate on the data

edit: nevermind, the data that had started going missing last night through this morning looks good, but then since about 9AM EST this morning it just thinks the thermostat has been on constantly, which is not the case. we'll see if it corrects itself later..

edit: just checked again and all appears to have been corrected. huzzah

We setup Nest around two weeks ago. Until now, it was showing the heating times every hour. For example, it ran for 20 mins on 10-11 am. But for the last 5 hours, no data is showing up. I know it turned on twice from 4PM-5PM but that not data is not showing up. I can set temp from phone and stuff like that are working. But not the energy dashboard. Any idea how to fix it?

I noticed in Nest App that my it has not stopped heating for past 4 hours which is not true. Then I tried to set a different temperature in Nest app and it worked. But now, it is showing usage is 0m for all past 5 hours and the new heating happening is not updating in the app.

We did not lose power today.

Having the exact same issue, started around noon central time today. I wasn't home when the dashboard said it had been heating for several hours straight and I panicked. Like you (and others) that incorrect data magically disappeared and says the furnace hasn't ran since 11am, when it was still logging data properly. I've done everything including resetting the thermostat and going thru the initial set up again. Now my only solution is 2 fingers of whiskey for it must be something wrong with the app itself.

If whiskey is the solution then let me know. I got a bunch of problems along with this one.

My energy dashboard stopped working as of today at 12pm ET. My furnace continues to operate correctly but the google home app is not recording the heating times. I have had my devices for a year

Wow. I can confirm this is happening with me as well. For me it stopped around 1PM ET. Not ideal but atleast now I know that it is an issue. I just restarted the Nest and saw the connection and it says it is good.

I see data now but it shows all 5 hours. Which is definitely not the case

It was like that for me. Then I gave a command via Home app and then it is gone. it could happen to you as well.

What’s the command ??

Sorry I meant I increased the temperature via Home app.

It still is showing full hour even though the heat didn’t turn on for the entire hour

Definitely something is up. Not sure. It turned on twice in 4-5PM, but showing as 0m in dashboard.

Having same issue as of today around 1pm. Not showing system time on. If anyone knows anything let us know. Looks like a Google issue since its happening to several of us.

I will update this thread if I start seeing the data.

I just started seeing mine backfilling the missing data. Hopefully you see yours showing the same, soon.

I also am experiencing the same issue, energy dashboard not recording, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, reset, still didn't work. Issue happened around 5 hours ago

welcome to the club

Definitely something wrong with @Nest  or Google. Nothing wrong with our thermostats.

Just curious as I am new here. Does the Nest team looks into issues from this community?

I am new too. Just joined today 🙂

Same problem here, the last 12 hours it isn’t tracking usage of the furnace.

For sure is some kind of software issue, they will fix it, hopefully soon 😉😎

It started between 12 pm and 1 pm for me too. Everything works fine except energy dashboard logging data.

Same thing happened here. I reset thermostat, did a hard reset and nothin.

It's their servers. Nothing for us to do.

WTF last year my pipes froze, yes I had Google Nest.  I'm home reseting etc.  I placed an order for a new one.  Google you can pay for the damage next round

Im having the same exact issue, maybe it’s the server, system or something.
