Nest thermostat temp control reverse

Hello so I have had the nest learning thermostat for years and the battery just died and due to the inconvenience of ordering a new one I just bought the new nest thermostat and connected it just the same as my old one however the controls are reversed it’s working clockwise is temp down and counterclockwise is temp up am I in lefty mode? Or defect unit?

Did you change the base ring also?

Should the answer be yes, swap the old base unit back, and see if that solves the problem.
