Nest thermostat wiring

I tried to replace my mercury thermostat with a nest thermostat, but it says that they are incompatible - could this be done with the nest thermostat? I will attach a picture of my mercury thermometer wiring.

What is the make and model of your HVAC system? Can you send us a wiring photo of your HVAC control board where the other end of your thermostat wires are connected?
