Nest thermostat with Apple iPhone

Just added a Nest thermostat to an existing Google home setup using my Pixel 6 pro phone.  Everything works great.  I also added Google Home on my wife's iPhone and  added her to the Household with full permissions.  She can see all our devices, but when she taps the thermostat icon, the app tells her that the thermostat is off, and that it wasn't fully set up (both statements are wrong).  It says that the thermostat must be removed from the home setup and reinstalled. I tried doing that but the same thing happens.  Any advice to fix this would be appreciated.

Hi, JT.

I went down your list and tried everything but no joy. I finally stumbled on a procedure that worked:  I removed my wife from the Home household, uninstalled the Home app from her phone, and removed the thermostat from the Home list of devices. I performed a Factory Reset on the thermostat.  I reinstalled the Home app on the iPhone and re-invited my wife to the Home household on it.  Finally, I re-added the thermostat using the Google Home app on  the iPhone.  It now works with both the iPhone and the Pixel 6 Pro.  Whew!

Hi simonp0420,

Thanks for reaching out! I'm sorry for the trouble and for the delayed response here. Let's check this out — a few questions: what type of thermostat do you have? How long has it been going on? Also, what country are you located in?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

JT

Hi, thanks for responding.  My Google Home app Device Information says that I have a "Model: Thermostat-1.4".  It's been going on since my first post (which was the same day I installed the Home app on my wife's iPhone).  I'm located in southern California in the US.

Hi simonp0420,

Thanks for the information. Let's have a better look. Going over these steps might help:

Verify your device’s Date and Time settings are correct and automatically set.

  1. Settings > General > Date and Time.
  2. Tap Set Automatically > toggle it off and then back on.
  3. Make sure that the timezone, date, and time are correct

Confirm that your Nest or Google Home app has permissions to use the phone's location.

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Nest.

Check the Apple Store for Nest or Google Home app updates.

Check for any available iOS updates.

Sign out of the Nest or Google Home app and sign back in.

Force close the Nest or Google Home app.

Restart your thermostat.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

JT
