I am replacing a Honeywell RTH 2410 thermostat that has G, Y, W/aux and RC wires. Can I use a Nest thermostat with a new C wire?

Hello Ghwills,

Welcome to the Google Nest Community!

It sounds like you're making a switch to a Nest Thermostat, which is a great choice for smart home temperature control. If you have a C-wire available, that's excellent because it provides constant power to your thermostat, ensuring stable operation.

For your specific wiring setup (G, Y, W/aux, and RC), here's how you can typically connect them to a Nest Thermostat:

  • G (fan): Connect this wire to the G terminal on your Nest Thermostat.
  • Y (Compressor): Attach the Y wire to the Y terminal on the Nest Thermostat.
  • W/aux (Heat): Connect the W/aux wire to the W1/Aux terminal on the Nest Thermostat.
  • RC (power): The RC wire is used for cooling. However, Nest Thermostats usually combine the RC and RH terminals. Connect the RC wire to the R terminal on the thermostat.

Since you have a C-wire available, be sure to connect it to the C terminal on the Nest Thermostat. The C-wire provides constant power, which can be crucial for certain Nest features and a smoother operation. Let me know if you have more questions.

Regards,
Mark
