I think you need the Google power connector, which is supposed to be free however I haven’t yet figured out how to get the free version; pretty frustrated…

Appreciate your answer. I've ordered one already, coming to the same conclusion myself.

Heres how I found mine for free:

If you follow the Google home App installation process, by going into the app and hitting the big + in the top left. Then scroll down and find thermostats, then just keep hitting next. Eventually it will ask you which wires you have and will give you a diagram of boxes to check. So just make sure C isn't checked (I only had a Red and White wire so I only checked W & R. It will then ask if you connected the Google Power connector or not. Hit no, and then it will take you to the google store page to order one at 0$. Takes a few days to arrive. Only need one, even if you have multiple thermostats. Ive watched some videos about connecting it to the zone controller on youtube; seems fairly straightforward for my setup. Hope that helps you find it.

Thanks! I revisited the home app and followed your process to a successful solution.

Recieved the power connector this week, plan on looking at the furnace this week. The zone controller is mounted on the side of the furnace- hoping I can put the connector in there to work on the two thermostats. Old house. Nothing is ever as easy as it seems around here.

Hello dowens21,

Sounds like a plan! Please keep us posted on how the installation goes, and I would be glad to know what the result will be. Also, here are some references to help you install your new Nest Power Connector on your HVAC system.

Thanks,

Mark

Found a video on youtube for my specific zone controller (Can't remember specific model # off the top of my head but was Taco Brand) and the nest power connector. Super simple installation after I found that. Seems I'll need a second one for the second zone, but the first one is working and I've been playing with it all night. House feels much better now.
