My gas furnace is heat only and has 5 wires: blue-C, red-R, white-E/W1, green-G, and orange-W2. Google Nest shows a Yellow wire connecting to Y1 and doesn't show any Orange wire. The wiring compatibility method that's supposed to include chat after attaching a pic doesn't work. Advice?

Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd GenBased on your wiring set up, it's compatible with Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Gen. This photo here is the base plate of NLT 3rd Gen, and you can connect all your wires. As for R wire you connect it to Rh. Kindly refer to this compatibility checker here: https://store.google.com/us/category/nest_thermostats?hl=en-US#thermostat_compatibility

Thanks for your advice. I already have the Nest thermostat. Are you saying that my wiring is not compatible with it? I viewed a couple of videos and noted that I likely only need 4 wires but I'm just not sure what to do with the orange wire. I didn't have any wire going to Y1 so is that where the orange wire goes? Also, I've tried that wiring compatibility link three times and, once it says to take a pic of your wiring and go to chat, you don't go anywhere except the forum.

Hey there,
Thanks so much for the helpful reply eveluna.
Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to follow up and see if I could be of any help. Do you mind me asking if the orange wire is connected to the W2 on your old thermostat? Are you able to provide a picture of the wiring? If so, I am showing you should be compatible. Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.
Best regards,
Jake

Jake, thanks for weighing in on this. Yes, the orange wire goes connects to W2 on the old thermostat. I can't figure out how to attach a photo I've taken but I can tell you that the old thermostat wiring connects as follows: Blue wire connects to C; red wire connects to R; white wire connects to E/W1; green wire connects to G; and orange connects to W2. Hope this helps. And if you can tell me how to attach a pic, I will!

Hey Scooter46,
When replying to the thread, you should see at the top a picture of a camera. Once you click on that, it should allow you to upload a picture to the forum page. Using our compatibility checker, I am showing you are compatible by entering the wires you have described. When setting up your Nest Thermostat, you will want to wire that C, R, W1, W2, and G to match what your current thermostat is showing. I also found an article with more details on compatibility that should be of help.
Best regards,
Jake
