Nest won’t charge on wall

I had a nest that worked great but the battery needed replacing. When replacing it I broke something so I bought a replacement face of the same model - version 3 learning. This one won’t charge on the wall. I have to take it off the wall and charge externally. It also says it’s never strong enough to connect to the app so it’s always off line.  Not sure why the second one doesn’t work like the first one

Where di you purchase the replacement display? Was it New or used?

My Nest stopped charging after they replaced my furnace and AC.... The power says not strong enough to connect to app or wi-fi.... I can take it down and charge it up and it works for a while then it drops again so I don't think it is charging on the wall. I haven't found a good test to see if it is actually charging on the wall.

Hi folks,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing detailed information. I understand that you are encountering some charging issues with your Nest thermostat. I'm here to help you find a solution together.

To assist you further, please attempt the following questions:

  • When did the issue first occur?
  • If the thermostat was recently installed, what is the make and model of your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment?
  • What is the color of the LED light?
  • Are the power breakers on, and do you receive power to your home?
  • Is the thermostat's display seated properly?
  • How long have you left your Nest thermostat charged?
  • Are the power breakers on, and do you receive power to your home?
  • Are all the wires of your thermostat seated firmly in its terminals (with no loose or exposed wires)?
  • Does the thermostat charge with a USB cable?
  • Have you received any error codes?

In the interim, you may check the Nest thermostat's USB compatibility and charge for nearly an hour:

Micro-USB port

  • Nest Thermostat E
  • 3rd Gen Nest Learning Thermostat
  • 2nd Gen Nest Learning Thermostat

Mini-USB port

  • 1st Gen Nest Learning Thermostat

No USB port

  • Nest Thermostat 2020
  • If you get a low battery message on your thermostat, pull off the display from its base and replace the AAA alkaline batteries.

Please keep me posted and let me know how it goes.

Warm regards,

Jeremy.
