Can you connect to a nest without being next to it using bluetooth?

To confirm, which product are you referring to? Nest Thermostat? What is it you're trying to do?

Its the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Gen.

I would like to control it from my Nest App - am i able to connect to it without being in the same house? Can you connect remotely? the App asks me to turn on my bluetooth suggesting i need to be beside it to connect ?

Bluetooth is only used during the device setup. Once setup, it uses Wi-Fi and you can control some things remotely, as long as it is connected to Wi-Fi.
