Newbie Nest E thermostat

BDale

Hi. Just purchased a home which has what I believe is a Nest E thermostat. I have it linked to my wireless account however I am looking for an app to control it. Google home app cannot find it for some reason. It’s asking for the QR code and details I don’t know how to get to. Is there someway to get a users guide or understand how to operate this thing other than manually? Thanks!

I finally had success this morning!! I had to reset the entire unit in order to get it linked  to my Wi-Fi, which it already was, but also be able to add it to the Nest app and program it. Thanks to everyone who helped out. I think there should be a clearer message that if you buy a home that already has a Nest installed, you have to do a complete reset of the unit in order to get it linked to the Nest app. Thanks again!

I have a Nest E and I can't control it with Google Home, I have to use the Nest app. Maybe try that?

The Nest app asks for QR Code which I have no idea how to find.

That I can answer! 😀

Pull the thermostat (the round part) off the base. It can be pulled off and put back on quite easily. If you look on the back of the round unit, there's a teeny-tiny QR code printed there.

I was too scared to try that. I pulled but it seemed not to budge. Do I pull straight out?

Does it need to be turned off first? Is there a manual somewhere?

It doesn't need to be turned off. It can be pulled off, just pull straight out. You'll see that it has a couple of ports that it connects with. There's a page with manuals here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9373007?hl=en

Thanks so much. You’ve been very helpful.

Hello. I got the QR Code thank you very much. Now it asks for an entry code which is under Nest app in settings. However when I get to that screen, there is no code it just says that the Nest is connected to a account. Still trying to get the Nest connected to the Nest app. Very frustrating. ☹️☹️ Thanks again.

My unit is on the wall and I wish I could send you a picture to confirm that it is the E series. At this point I’m just guessing.
