Power issue or Bluetooth issue?

Our current Honeywell thermostat controlling our heat pump/AC system has the white wire in W2, green in G, orange in W, brown in C, yellow in Y, and red in Rc w a jumper to R. We tried to install the Nest Thermostat today and the Google Home app couldn’t find it. We tried going through the Bluetooth suggestions elsewhere in this forum but no joy. We checked to make sure the thermostat was getting power, but it seems to only get it from the batteries. When we toom the batteries out, it wasn’t getting any power from the wiring. The Honeywell we are trying to replace had a place for batteries but never had any in there. It always got power directly from the wiring.

Does anyone know if this sounds like we disn’t wite it correctly, or is it more likely a Bluetooth issue? Or just incompatable altogether?

Hi SNAFU1,

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing difficulties with the installation and setup of your Nest Thermostat.  Your thermostat wires are compatible with our Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation only and should be wired to the Nest Learning Thermostat as shown:

  • White wire (W2) to W2 terminal
  • Green wire (G) to G terminal
  • Orange wire (W) to OB terminal
  • Brown wire (C) to C terminal
  • Yellow wire (Y) to Y1 terminal
  • Red wire (R) to RH terminal, disregarding jumper wire

Keep us posted.

Best,

Zoe
