Problem connecting App to Nest Service

jps3708

My app is not connecting.

1. I sign out and sign back in with the Google account I assigned.

2. wants to allow access to the account so I press "allow"

3. The home symbol just spins and spins for several minutes

4. eventually it says " "There is a problem connecting to the Nest service. Try again in a few minutes".

Its been doing this for a day now.  Should I delete and reinstall the app on my Iphone?  Thanks for the assistance in working through this.

So this is odd. When I left the house and wifi range it connected.  But when I returned, the issue returned.

While inside the house,  disconnect your cellphone from wifi but stay connected to internet via cell data.  Try accessing your nest tstat again.

That worked, thanks.  Is the app not intended to be used at home with wifi?

When you connect to Wifi at home with cell phone try connecting to same band width as the Nest T-stat.  If the Nest t-stat is connected to your 2.4GHz then connect your cell phone to same SSID on 2.4GHz.

I only have one router at the house and both my phone and Nest t-stat are connected to the same Wifi address.  The app wont work when Im connected to Wifi and only works when I leave the house or switch off my phones wifi and use only cell service.  I remember is working previously no matter what my phone was set to.  Is there another setting I need to change?

Is your phone an iPhone?

I’m having the same issues. I tried resetting the thermostat, resetting router, deleted app, reinstalled app still not working. The nest thermostat is connected to my router. It still can’t connect to the app.

Yes, I use an iPhone 14 Pro on iOS version 16.4.1.
I have reset my router, nest thermostat, and deleted and reinstalled the app.
I also tried to connect, using only cellular service, which also did not work.
And the nest app will just not let me sign in.

From a Reddit post:

"I had this same problem on my iPhone and I also have an android phone that doesn’t have this issue. Upon doing some more research and playing with some settings, iPhones have a specific setting called “Limit IP Address Tracking” it’s enabled by default. When I disabled this, my Google Home app and the camera streams started to work. On your iPhone go to Wi-Fi>Click the info icon next to the Wi-Fi network you are connected to>Limit IP Address Tracking and disable it."

While at home, I guess I will just disconnect from my wifi when I want to look at my thermostat from my app.  Shouldnt have to do that but alas, we cant seem to  figure out why I cant connect to the app when Im at home while on wifi.

Have you tried the following?   Verify that both your nest t-stat and also your device with nest app are connected to same SSID network of your WiFi. Don't use your "guest network".

Yes sir, I have. They are both connected to the same network.  Its odd.  Worked great without any issues for a long time.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for stopping by @WalkGood.

I know it's been a while, and I’m sorry to hear about the current situation with your Nest app. I thank you for being ahead of the troubleshooting steps that might fix this case.

Please check for the signal strength of your Nest Thermostat by going to Settings, then looking for Technical Info, and then selecting Network. Check for two numbers: ping speed and signal strength. If the ping isn’t available, you can check the Nest Weave connection instead, which can be seen under Settings, Technical Info, and Nest Weave. Then, determine whether or not you are connected.

I'll look forward to your responses.

Best,

Zoe

Ironically,  I did a iPhone software update early this morning that was scheduled and it now works on wifi.   I did however check those settings yesterday on the t-stat and they appeared connected. I think Im good now.

Hi folks,

I know its been a while, and I thank you for following-up.

@jps3708, I'm glad that everything has already been sorted out. If you run into any more questions in the future, please feel free to create a new thread.

@Lou70, since your iPhone shows up to date but your Nest Thermostat's Nest Weave connection is weak, in this case, I am referring you to reach out to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or router manufacturer’s website for information on how to adjust parental controls and security settings because it varies between different routers, and some ISPs have special controls for these settings.

If your ISP has confirmed these settings, and you're still having the same situation, please let us know as I would be happy to look into it and assist you more.

Regards,

Zoe
