Hi,
I moved to a new place and my old place have a 3rd generation nest. I plan move to 3rd generation to my new location and buy a cheaper version regular new Nest to the old one. My question is do I need to change the plate as well or just plug the new one in the old plate and it will work, pls suggest. Btw, my am renting out the old place so want to carry the more expensive one with me.
thanks

The base plate is different for each model of Nest thermostat so you will have to install the new Nest Thermostat's base.
Be sure to verify that the Google Nest Thermostat can be installed in place of your Nest 3rd GEN Learning Thermostat as they are not the same.
