Replacing Nest thermostat with newer one

I’m replacing my older Nest thermostat with a newer one (model G4CVZ) thinking it would be straight forward. Old Nest has connections for 10 wires - I have 8 wires coming in (see pic). The new Nest only has 6 connections! I may have figured out a few of them but am stumped. The system is a 2-stage heat/cool. Help!

Hey there,

I'm so sorry for the delay in our response, but I wanted to hop in here to make sure we addressed your concern. I can definitely understand the confusion when it comes to thermostat issues as it can be very odd to figure out sometimes, but I'm happy to look into this for you.

First off, I would suggest using the Compatibility Checker to see if your system is compatible. Then, if it is, I would suggest contacting a pro to come out to help you with this since I know that the Nest thermostat is not compatible with stranded wires, every wire has to be connected to the Nest Thermostat system.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns as I'm happy to help.

Best regards,

Thanks for the reply. I have used the Compatibility Checker with the new Nest thermostat. It says my system is not compatible, which is really odd since I'm already using a Nest Thermostat!

No, I do not have stranded wires.

Previous Nest thermostat has 10 places for wires and my system used 8
New Nest thermostat has 6 places for wires and I have 8

From further research, I have concluded the new Nest thermostat that was purchased does not work with my system - 2 stage heat/cool

So, I guess I will wire up the current Nest thermostat and hope for many more years of service!
