Hi all! Does anyone know where the black wire connected to the X2 port should go on the new Nest thermostat? Customer service told me where all the other wires go, but didn’t know about the black one. This is a Trane thermostat that I’m wanting to replace. Thank you!

Your current thermostat is only fully compatible with the Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd Gen.
The X terminal is for emergency heat which only the Learning thermostat supports.
If you can live without the emergency heat function, you can just tape the black wire off and you can then use the Google Nest Thermostat

@Patrick_CaezzaThank you for your response! That is helpful. I'm not sure if our emergency heat function has ever been used, but will do a little more research to determine if it's smart to disable that or not. Thank you again!

@Jake thank you for following up! I just don't know whether it's worth it to keep the emergency heat function. Probably so. Thanks for checking!

If you upgrade to the Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd Gen, you will also gain a lot of features that the basic model Google Nest Thermostat doesn't have.
Ultimately, it is a personal choice, but I never want to install something that removes any features when I install something new.
