Thermostat (3G) with sperate Rh and Rc works only with either Rh or Rc

I have five wires - 2 for heating and 3 for cooling. Both systems works when I use my 25 yrs old programmable Honeywell thermostat. When I connect the same five wires Rc, G, Y for cooling and Rh, W for heat the Rh shows no power. If I disconnect the Rc & Y of the cooling system, Rh shows power and heating system works. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
