@Chrisshrimpton The proper way for preparing this nest thermostat to be transferred to a new home owner. You just need to go into your Nest app and then choose REMOVE this device from my account. Once you do this, the software will notify the Nest server cloud that that device is no longer part of your account and that nest server cloud will notify the nest thermostat that it no longer is a nest ID attached to it.
The new owner, then would just need to install the Nest app and then go to the Nest display wake it up, go into settings and Nest, and then reestablish the connection following the instructions on the display.
