Thermostat doesn't follow schedule

Cnchristophe
Community Member

I have 3 nests set up in my house, one on each floor. The main floor one is a learning one the other two are not. I have the home/away sensors turned off on all 3. I set a schedule for the upstairs Nest to turn on at 8pm so it's cool when I go to bed. It's not working. Any ideas? It's 75 degrees, and is supposed to be 69 degrees.

As a start at troubleshooting:

1.  Make sure Eco Mode is off.  Also double-check, in Settings, that Home/Away Assist is really off; our Nest has turned that on all by itself a couple of times.

2.  If you manually set the Nest to 69, i.e., set a temporary override, does your system cool the upstairs?  Does the Nest display show that it's trying to achieve 69?

How do I delete Ecco?  Away assist is off.
It automatically changes the temp when I have manually set it...so I set it to 68, but when I head up stairs for bed it's 72+

To turn Eco on or off, click on the little leaf symbol (labeled "Eco") that's at the bottom of the screen when you're looking at the diagram for a particular Nest.  (This is on home.nest.com.  May be different on other interfaces.)

When you try manually setting the Nest to 68, does it work temporarily?  I.e., does the Nest display show that it intends to cool to 68?  If so, does your compressor turn on to try to cool the upstairs to 68?  If so, does the upstairs get cool for a while, before this reset to a higher temperature later on?  And, if the Nest does display its willingness to cool to 68 when you set it there manually, at what time does the display change to show that the Nest believes that it's supposed to let the house warm up into the 70s?  The point of all this troubleshooting is to try to isolate the problem to the Nest itself, or to how you've set it, or to the Nest's communication with your system, or to the system itself.

Appreciate your helpful responses, CBFox.

Cnchristophe, chiming in to ensure everything is good here. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Hey Cnchristophe,

How's it going with your thermostat now? Still need our help?

Best,

Melba

Thanks for checking in.

From what I can tell Ecco is off. I have to use 2 different apps for the 3 different nests. Google Home is the one connected with the bedroom Nest.

When I manually set it, it appears to kick on, but it doesn't stay the manually set temp. I came home tonight and it's 74, when it was set to 68. I adjusted the dial and set it 68 and checked it a few hours later and it says 68, but it's hot and 74.

Did you figure out this issue, I have the same problem

No. It's still causing issues. I uninstalled it and put in a basic Honeywell one.

Does it work like it suppose to now?  with the basic Honeywell one ?
I was thinking about doing the same

Hi samssims,

Thanks for letting us know. To isolate the issue, could you check the address on your Google Home if it's set up correctly? We want to make sure that the Google Home app is using the correct time zone.

Thanks,

Edward

Has anyone figured out the solution to this yet? I'm having a similar issue. My thermostat will not follow the schedule. It keeps turning the heat on to 22° when I've set the temperature to 19°, it does this multiple times throughout the day as well as in the middle of the night. I've switched off learning mode as well as the away assist so I'm not sure why this is happening. The only time it listens to me is when I've set it to Eco mode, but then I have to manually set the temperature every time I want it changed. Why won't it just follow the schedule I've set?

I have the same issue with the ac

I run a business in Palm Springs, 3200sf with 4 hallways with a Nest in each hallway, setup with its own schedule. I have it set so each hallway doesn't go over 80 degrees overnight. I've had this setup for close to ten years and my Nest schedule has never worked properly and doesn't participate in the "getting smarter", "learning" features. I have also never found anyone to speak with, hence, everyones comments on here going unanswered, but happy to have found the community. I've read through the "trouble-shooting" and can confirm my address is correct lol Oy vey. I think I'm going to have to watch some YouTubes and call a technician to come out...probably should have done this years ago to maximize the nest features. I'll report my findings!

Guys, I did it! I fixed it.

I've googled this topic so many ways and so many times, and I finally found a comment on Reddit that fixed it!

If your Google Nest thermostat won't follow the schedule, make sure you are not turning it off.

I was so mad that this was the answer. We were setting the schedule and assuming it would come on at the scheduled time. You need to leave it on, we set ours to 10 degrees (celcius) over night so it wouldn't come on, and set a schedule for 18 degrees at 7.30am and it finally worked!

God dammit, and I hope this helps!

TLDR: set your thermostat to a low temperature rather than turning it off, and it should follow the schedule.
