Thermostat keeps losing connection and screen goes blank

Cheers all

After the first battery change the Google thermostat keeps loosing wifi connection and screen turns off becoming unresponsive.

I've taken the Thermostat off the connector plate, take the batteries out and the Thermostat restarts, connects to wifi and works again for 6-10 hours before the problems start again.

Battery voltage is at 3.2 (brand new Duracell battery) and Vin values are at around 30-32 volts when idle.

I have a working C cable (Lin values say C-332).

Any ideas? The Thermostat is 4 months old.

Thanks

G

Hey Chileansurg,

Sorry for the late reply, and to hear about the trouble you are having with your device. I know this is not an ideal situation. I wanted to follow up and see I could be of any help. I found an article that has some troubleshooting steps if your device is not turning on. Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Best regards,
Jake

Hey Chileansurg,

I am sorry to hear that you had to replace the device, but glad that the new device is working properly. There is a chance that the black-out could have had something to do with the last device not working. I am going to leave the thread open for a couple of days to make sure the new thermostat is working properly from here. Please let me know if you have any questions or trouble, as I would be happy to help out further.

Best regards,

Jake

Cheers guys

Everything seems to be working ok so far.  Still a shame to have to replace a 4 month old product.

Thanks

Hi @Jake

Unfortunately the problem went from bad to worse. The Thermostat kept eating away batteries faster each time, to eventually rebooting randomly, then every one hour until the screen went blank and ceased to work at all.

I'm out of warranty (4 months old device 😭) and had to buy a new Google Thermostat which is working fine.

Current values Vin 33.02V Lin 360 PS C-360 over the original base connector which confirms my installation is working fine. It seems I got a lemon on the first Thermostat... Oh well.

We did have a couple of thunderstorms and blackouts on our area before the original Thermostat went berserk... Maybe a power surge fried something.

Cheers

Gabriel
