Thermostat not charging

Mjoy

Our 3rd generation thermostat won't hold a charge. It is plugged directly into the wall and after a few minutes it will turn on but only stay on for a minute or two before stating that it needs to turn off to charge. We had connectivity issues with it a few months ago that we couldn't resolve. We decided to try again and we're surprised that it did turn on but now we are having this issue. I have read elsewhere that the issue may be caused by the lacking of charging over the past few months. However it is only 3 years old so we would not expect these issues already.

I would appreciate any advice please.

Thanks

Hi Mjoy,

Thank you for posting in the community. I see you’re having trouble with your Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen. It seems the thermostat won't hold a charge following a connectivity situation you experienced a few months ago, and it only stays on for a minute or two before it needs to turn off and charge again. I’m here to help.

To better assist you, please answer the following questions:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have? (Here is a helpful article to confirm the model of the Nest thermostat).
  • When did the situation first occur?
  • What is the make and model of your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment?
  • Is the thermostat's display seated properly on its base?
  • Are all the wires of your thermostat seated firmly in its terminals (with no loose or exposed wires)?
  • Have you tried charging the thermostat using a USB cable? If so, does it charge successfully?

Please keep me posted on your findings.

Regards,

Byron
