Our 3rd generation thermostat won't hold a charge. It is plugged directly into the wall and after a few minutes it will turn on but only stay on for a minute or two before stating that it needs to turn off to charge. We had connectivity issues with it a few months ago that we couldn't resolve. We decided to try again and we're surprised that it did turn on but now we are having this issue. I have read elsewhere that the issue may be caused by the lacking of charging over the past few months. However it is only 3 years old so we would not expect these issues already.
I would appreciate any advice please.
Thanks

Hi Mjoy,
Thank you for posting in the community. I see you’re having trouble with your Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen. It seems the thermostat won't hold a charge following a connectivity situation you experienced a few months ago, and it only stays on for a minute or two before it needs to turn off and charge again. I’m here to help.

Hi Byron,
I'm having the same issues reported here. We have 3 nest thermostats. One of them stopped working and despite turning up the heat (with an orange screen) the furnace wasn't engaging. The zone relay panel was clicking, but the furnace wasn't starting up. I tried a few things and nothing worked so I swapped around some of my nest thermostats. I moved a different nest to that baseplate and it worked. The nest that wasn't working to engage the furnace was moved to the other room and it worked, but now it won't hold a charge. I can charge it via USB, but once I put it on the baseplate the battery will die after some time...
- Nest Display-3.4 is the model
- The situation first occurred about a month ago
- The thermostat is seated properly on the base
- All the wires are firmly seated
- Charging with a USB works
Thanks,
Nick
