Thermostat will not find any wifi

raulqc

I have a 3rd generation nest thermostat. I was operational, but suddenly went offline. I have a next mesh network, two speaker, TV and wifi point can see and connect to the network. While t-shooting the problem I reset router, Nest wifi PRO router, and reset the Thermostat Network and reset the device. Nothing has resolve the problem. I was going to attempt to reset the device to factory setting, but now is stuck on "disconnecting from wifi".

Any advice?

In the network settings on the thermostat itself do you remember seeing or have you seen a "“Error - nest.com/w5" message?

It sounds like you've already tried some good troubleshooting steps. There are some other things you can check:

I did try using my phone as hotspot, but the thermostat did not find it. Now it is stuck in "Disconnecting from Wi-Fi network" for an hour. I am unable to do anything now. Not sure how to get out of this mode.  Any recommendations? I will like to have basic control of my AC at least.

Have you tried manually restarting it? Scroll to the bottom of this help article:

My Google thermostats have bricked when attempting to factory reset after it refuses to connect to Google home when a new mesh network was installed. No one has come up with a solution.

Hi @RJM

I see you created your own post, which I'll link below, which I already responded to. If you wouldn't mind, let's continue the conversation there to make it easy for us all to keep track.

I have restarted and reset the device more than once. It also got stuck on “Disconnecting from wi-fi” for over an hour. I was forced to open the unit an unplug the battery to get basic Thermostat functions. My house temperature was at 86F. Still will not see the Wi-Fi. By the way the error displayed was “m5”.

It still gets stuck at "disconnecting from Wi-Fi" even after manually restarting it? And even after a factory reset, it gets stuck at that same stage?

You previously mentioned trying to use a Wifi hotspot. Did it show any Wifi networks, or did it just not find any Wifi networks at all?

As for the M5 error, that would suggest it doesn't know what kind of heating system you have. If you've restarted and reset, it's probably due to that. If you press the thermostat ring to open the menu, go to Settings, then Equipment, it'll show you your wire setup. If you tap Continue, then choose Heat type, you can check or set the type of heating you have.

After unplugging and plugging the battery the unit have basic thermostat operation, still will not connect (detects) any Wi-Fi. I try to wi-fi networks Google mesh or setting my iphone as hotspot.

After setting my iphone as hotspot and inches aways from the thermostat the thermostat did not detected any networks.

Double check the wiring, the configuration is correct.

Thanks for your help, is there are any diagnostic application that I can connect via the USB port to run diagnostic on the device?

No there isn't, but it's clear you've already tried quite a new of troubleshooting steps, which is appreciated. I've asked a community specialist to review this topic and advise on other possible options and next steps.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out and I appreciate all the troubleshooting you've already tried. Could you please provide your Nest Learning Thermostat power readout? Also, when did you purchase your thermostat?

You can follow this guide to check your thermostat power readings:

  1. Go to your thermostat Quick View menu.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Look for Technical Info.
  4. Select Power.

I appreciate the help, @David_K.

Best,

Jenelyn
