Using Nest thermostat instead of icomfort S30 to replace failed 10F81 thermostat

Current wiring is an R, C, and an i+ and i-.

Furnace EL296UHV

A/C Lenox C33/CX34

Questions
- Can the latest generation of Nest thermostat work to manage these systems?
- Where do I find details on recommended wiring?
- I called a HVAC company and was told that it might work, but it is not as efficient. There were some
additional comments about the NEST not being able to effectively communicate with these systems .  Any
documented issues with having NEST thermostat manage the systems or potential concerns as it relates to systems performance degradation in the future? The HVAC company did not fully elaborate on the efficiency/communication concerns.
