Why is my heating coming on at 3am?

Hi, I have a new Nest thermostat. I've programmed the heating to 18 degrees at 7am and to 9 degrees at 10pm, assuming that will give me heating during the day and it will be off at night. However, the heating is coming on at 3am each morning. What am I doing wrong? Thank you!

I should add to that that the thermostat is saying 18 degrees at 4am, so it's not coming on to heat to 9 degrees 😞

And I cannot seem to set the temperature any lower than 9 degrees either?!

Just to clarify what you're seeing: When you pull up the Schedule, you see little orange globes at 7am (18) and 10pm (9), and that's it? (The lowest temperature possible on my Nest is 50F, so probably it's true that you can't go below 9C.)

If your schedule is correct, with no orange globes during the night, the problem may possibly be that your Nest is preheating your system so that your house will get up to 18 by 7am. If you don't want that -- if you want the heat to kick in only at 7am no matter how cold the house is -- you need to turn off that "smart" feature. Go into the Nest Sense section of Settings. The options are explained here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9244728?hl=en#zippy=%2Cnest-thermostat-e-or-nest-learni...

Except on my Learning model it's slightly different. I don't see "Early On". Instead I see "Choose Max Duration", where I can limit the number of hours that the Nest will preheat.

Hello folks,

I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.

Very well said, @CBFox. Thanks for assisting!

@AJY, Were you able to follow the steps shared by CBFox? Disabling smart features such as auto-schedule would help in preventing your thermostat from adjusting the temperature at random. I'd be glad to hear from you, and I'd like to make sure everything is working.

Best regards,

Mark
