My Wi Fi connection on my Nest Thermostat has worked for almost two years without fail. Now it disconnects and will not reconnect unless I reboot my modem. I have tried cutting the power to the Thermostat but only a reboot of the modem works.

How well do you know the administration options of your WiFi router? If you have the ability to setup a reserved address based on the MAC address of the Nest Thermostat. When this is done there is no device competition and the reserved address are typically served up first. I usually put all printers and fixed devices like Google Mini’s, Google Hub, Smart light bulbs and appliances.

Thanks for the advice. I am not sure how to this but I think I figured it out why the thermostat needed a reboot. I have Xfinity internet and my service unknown to me was part of their "hot spot" program and it became disabled occasionally and always late at night. In the morning the thermostat indicated it was disconnected from Wi Fi several hours ago. I think everything rebooted except the thermostat. I have deleted permission to be a "hot spot" and hopefully this will take care of the issue. Thanks again and if this doesn't work I will try the reserved address.

The answer was great but I went about it in a different way and so far it is working.

Hey blue3,
Good to hear! It looks like we have come to a solution, but I suggest monitoring it and if anything comes up just let us know. I'll keep this thread open for 24 hours.
Thanks,
