nest remote sensor won't connect to the thermostat, says it's already connected to another account

Hello I recently had the battery die on my nest remote senor.  I replaced the battery but now the remote sensor will not reconnect to my gen 3 thermostat.  It says it is already connected to another account.  I tried to remove the battery for 5 minutes and reinstall but that does not solve the problem.  I finally contacted customer support and they could not solve the issue so they escalated it.  I was again contacted by more customer support and they suggested disconnecting my tstat from my wifi and connecting it to my phone's hotspot connection.  I did this and wow!! the remote sensor now finally reconnected and stopped giving me the strange error message.  I set my tstat back to the house wifi and the remote sensor stayed connected.  PROBLEM SOLVED Finally!!!

Not sure why this solution is so top secret as I searched the internet for days and never saw this solution mentioned anywhere so I am sharing it here and hopefully word will spread and help others solve this same issue.

Hello wpenno,

Thanks for posting here about what you've done to have your concern rectified — give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done!

I'm glad the hotspot worked to reconnect your Temperature Sensor to your Wi-Fi network. But I want to make sure you're good to go. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Mark
