nest was set up through Insteon which is now asking for a subscription and I want to simply connect it to the nest app on my phone.

Do i need to reset and create a new account?

Me too. Plus, it said sign up for your free account, give your cc info to id your location (?) then in the fine print below it said the subscription would cost $39. I just want to hook up to my phone anyway, not to google. What's up with that?

Steve,

When you installed the Nest and or the Nest Pro installed it, your smart phone was used and the Nest App was installed to complete the configuration and set up. Simply delete the thermostat from the Insteon app and go back to using the Nest App.

There is no real reason you must use Insteon and Google does not recommend it. You cannot compete the proper installation of the Nest thermostat with out installing the Nest App. If you started with the Nest App and you still have it installed and linked to your Nest thermostat, simply delete the device in the Insteon app. Now, after that, install the Google Home app and do everything Insteon is trying to and there is no subscription fee. I you find my answer helpful, please give me 👍 “Kudo”. If my answer satisfied your question/inquiry, simply check the “Recommend this Answer” as well. Thank you.

What happened was that I scanned the QR code too early and Insteon (?) apparently intercepted it. I don't have Insteon as an app on my Samsung smartphone - is it named something else maybe? I got through after rebooting and didn't scan it until it was time. It's working fine now.

The normal Nest installation process, as a new out of box, starts off booting the thermostat, then you are directed to download the Nest App to continue. The Nest app requires to create an account, if you had not as of yet. After the app is activated you add the Nest Thermostat and the installation configuration begins.

Old email on nest account so I did a factory reset and connected to a new nest account by app. Once I figured that out it was easy. Thanks to all.
