set nest thermostat on schedule to less than 50 degrees F

I would like to set my nest thermostat to 45 degrees on schedule at night, and then turn on automatically in the morning.

However, the Google Home + Nest will not let me set a scheduled temperature below 50 degrees F.

How can I fix that (bad) feature?

Nevermind ... found the answer in reddit.   It seems the only setting, custom or pre-defined that allows you to set < 50 degrees F is 'Eco',  which appears to let me go down all the way to the 'Safety'  temperature.

It is not clear why this could not be clearly documented somewhere in the instructions or this forum?

Any way to set a temp on a Nest thermostat below 50F? : r/Nest (reddit.com)

While 'eco' does allow the thermostat to be set < 50 degrees, we have found that every night around 4 AM the thermostat will set the temperature up and turn on the furnace even though there is no scheduled setting, and the Nest appears to need to be reset manually to return to the 'eco' setting.

Has anyone seen this or have any idea what could cause it?

There is nothing shown in the 'activity' related to this mystery setting.

Hi pzelten,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We're sorry for any trouble this may have caused you. Let's see what's going on. The Nest Learning Thermostat should not turn on the furnace at a specific time, like 4 a.m., if there is no schedule during that time, but the Nest Thermostat has an auto-schedule feature that can learn your day-to-day schedule and adjust it accordingly. Auto-schedule learning is on by default, but it's just one option for scheduling temperatures on your Nest thermostat. If you'd like to learn about all the available options, check out our article about Nest thermostat temperature schedules.

Also, you can manually set the schedule for the Nest Learning Thermostat, open the Quick View menu, and then select the Schedule Nest thermostat schedule icon.

It will show you the schedule for the mode that your thermostat is currently in. So if your thermostat is in heat mode, the heating schedule will be shown. If it’s in cool mode, it will show you the cooling schedule.

Manually set your thermostat's temperature mode.

If you have other questions, let us know. We're happy to help.

Cheers,

Renz
